From ten days in Russia. Pretty disorientated and certainly hungry. Russia turned out to be one of the most expensive countries we have ever visited and, unfortunately, not one of the most Epicurean. Although fistfuls of cash spilled out of every fur coat we saw milling (or pushing) around us, our New York sense of value didn't have much of a place here. We're spoiled here with the diversity of food and the price we can get it at, and we have returned to Brooklyn a few pounds heavier around the waist, but lighter in the pocket.
Tempted as I was this morning to cure my jetlag with yet more bread, Michael suggested something a little healthier and nipped over to the local shop for some provisions – milk and bananas. He whipped up some of our new addiction, Bob's 6 grain hot cereal, adding some dried cranberries into the mix and caramelizing some bananas to go on top. What a welcome home. Now, if you'll excuse me, Fresh Direct just arrived so I am going to start making some hot cross buns for Easter and download the photos from Russia which I will post soon.
caramelized bananas was all i needed to hear - i'd eat the cereal any day. sorry your trip wasn't as full of gastronomical delights as you would have liked!
