We had a novaclutch potluck the other evening and Natasha showed up with these lovely little sprouts. She wouldn't tell me what they were but insisted I eat one and tell her what I thought. Not being much for open-your-mouth-and-close-your-eyes surprises (I have two brothers after all) I semi-willingly obliged. The first few nibbles tasted remarkably fresh but undefinable. A few more nibbles and my mouth was filled with a bright tartness. I couldn't place it, but once Natasha explained that it was corn sprouts I recognized the flavor. While I can't really imagine eating a whole plate full, these sprouts are an amazing addition to a salad. They would probably also be excellent topping a steak or a black bean salad. I don't know how long they will be in season, but they are definitely worth a trip to the farmer's market.
