We got to Red Hook later than we expected. The day was blazing hot. Natasha was hobbling, I didn't have enough sunblock, and the lines were so so long. But we had such a hankering for huaraches, tamarind juice, and tacos and we had driven all the way there in the heat that we just decided to stay. We decided to divide and conquer, each taking one line. Drinks are much faster than food. After nearly forty minutes in line (Who waits forty minutes for food? Okay, me. Frequently. But not in 97 degree heat!) and we finally ordered. Minutes later my arms were filled with amazing looking food. Huaraches made with oversized handmade tortillas filled with zucchini, mushrooms, onions, beans, queso fresco, and mouth-blistering hot sauce. Washed down with hibiscus tea and tamarindo, it was easily worth the wait.
Such a great place to get good, authentic Latin American food. in the style in which it is meant to be served. Yum. I might just make some carne asada tacos for lunch!

Hey, was this Red Hook in NY? I was there in beautiful little restaurant with authentic Italian food, oh, absolutely amazing. The place is called Mercato, maybe you heard of it?
You should've made a stop at the Culinary Institute! If you ever do, let me know! ;)

This was Red Hook in NY – we are all based here in Brooklyn! And we will definitely come by and see you at the Culinary Institute, but only if you promise to make us dessert...

Of course Natasha! Right now I'm in the Apple pie bakery cafe and my shift is from 2:30am till 11, because I am on the breads station and I have to bake off and finish everything. I was never in Brooklyn, I have to come once, I know there's a place called Chocolate Room there...

The Chocolate Room is great, and they very obligingly mixed port and sherry into one of their milkshakes for us...click "email us" to let us know which Culinary Institute you're at and we can meet up!
